For the last couple of months I have managed to get my butt into a rehearsal studio with three other guys to put together a blues/rock set list for a possible showcase in October. (They don't know this yet.) Because this is the vacation time of year (going on a cruise next week, myself), we haven't been rehearsing with a full complement over the past few weeks. That's OK, we aren't playing with a full deck, either. In any case, I think I might be onto something. I'm not nearly as depressed as I usually am at this point in the rehearsal process. We are roughly halfway through compiling an 8-10 song set list and it will include tunes from the likes of Savoy Brown, Robert Johnson, Carl Perkins, perhaps the obscure Jack Bruce song "Sonny Boy Willliamson" and to indulge my 60s nostalgia, "Fresh Air" by Quicksilver Messenger Service.
I'll be bringing my acoustic guitar on the cruise with the idea that I will actually spend time practicing. Right, and Faye Wray begged King Kong to take her to the top of the Empire State Building because she wanted to see New Jersey.
